Common questions
Does Hymnos need the internet?
No. The organ, both pianos, the bells and every hymn are inside the app from the moment you install it. Hymnos does not need a connection to open, to load a service or to play, so airplane mode is fine, and so is a church with no signal.
Can I use a Bluetooth page-turner pedal?
Yes. Pair it in your device’s Bluetooth settings and open Live. Most page-turners send Page Down / Page Up or the arrow keys, which move to the next and previous cue. Space or Return is GO, and Esc fades the hymn.
What happens if the screen locks, or a call comes in?
While a service is open in Live the screen stays on by default. If the device locks anyway, the hymn plays to its end. A phone call pauses the music, and it never starts again by itself: tap GO to carry on. A Focus or Do Not Disturb before the service avoids this.
The app closed in the middle of the service. Have I lost my place?
No. Open Hymnos again: Live shows “The service stopped at cue N” with Resume and Start from the beginning.
How do I stop a hymn immediately?
Tap FADE five times quickly. One tap fades it gently over about two bars.
Why does the sound come a little after I press GO?
You are probably on Bluetooth or AirPlay. Wireless audio lags, about a quarter of a second on Bluetooth and up to two seconds on AirPlay. A cable, or the device’s own speaker, is exact.
Which devices does Hymnos run on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 16 or later. Newer devices play the organ with more stops at once; on older ones some large registrations use fewer stops so the sound stays steady. For a church, an iPad on a music stand is easiest to read.
What is free, and what does Hymnos Pro add?
Free: the whole Library (every hymn, every instrument, tempo, playlists), the two example services, which you can run in Live with every control, and all of Settings. Hymnos Pro adds your own services: create, edit and duplicate plans, send them to Live, and send hymns from the Library into a running service.
Is there a free trial? How do I cancel?
New subscribers get 14 days free. Cancel any time before it ends in your Apple Account settings, or in Hymnos under Settings › Hymnos Pro › Manage Subscription, and you will not be charged. Family Sharing is included. Prices are shown in the app, in your currency, before you subscribe.
I changed phones. How do I get Pro back?
Settings › Hymnos Pro › Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account.
What happens if my subscription ends?
The Library and the examples stay free. Your plans stay on your device and you can still view them; editing and running them in Live need Pro again. A service already running in Live is never stopped mid-service.
Can I move my plans to another device?
Plans are kept on your device and are included in your iCloud or computer backup, so they come back when you restore it. There is no export or sharing of plans in this version.
Are the words included? Why can’t I find a hymn?
Hymnos plays the music only; no words are included. It includes hymns whose music is in the public domain, so many well-loved modern hymns are not there. Try the tune name too, since many texts are sung to the same tune.
Why does one hymn have an Amen and another doesn’t?
Each hymn uses the Amen its tradition uses. You can change it in Settings › Amen for all hymns, in Plan for one hymn, or by holding AMEN in Live.
Is the organ a recording?
No. The pipe organ is modelled on your device, pipe by pipe, as it plays, in the room you choose. That is why it can change registration and key instantly.
It crackles or drops out.
Choose Settings › Audio › Low CPU, and close other apps. Avoid very large registrations on older devices.
Preparing stops when the phone locks.
On iOS before 26, preparing continues only in the foreground or while charging. Leave the app open, or plug in.
Storage is getting full.
Settings › Pre-rendered hymns: choose a smaller size, Off, or Remove pre-rendered hymns.
